Instagram AI-generated profile label: what it means for AI influencers

Since August 31, 2026 Instagram asks AI personas to turn on the “AI-generated profile” label. How to turn it on, plus TikTok, YouTube and Fanvue.

What changed on 2026-08-31

Instagram now asks accounts that feature an AI-generated person to turn on the AI-generated profile label. It is a profile-level setting, not a per-post one. Instagram says profiles that add the label themselves keep their reach, and that it may limit the reach of unlabelled profiles its systems identify as AI personas.

Who needs it

Any account whose face is an AI character: virtual influencers, AI models, AI UGC personas and fan pages built around an AI person. If people could mistake the persona for a real human, label it.

How to turn it on

  1. Open your profile on Instagram and tap Edit profile.
  2. Turn on AI-generated profile.
  3. Keep #aigenerated in captions, so viewers see it on every post.

What to do on other platforms

  • TikTok: turn on AI-generated content in each post's settings. TikTok says it automatically labels uploads that carry Content Credentials (C2PA).
  • YouTube: YouTube clarified in July 2026 that its monetization policies exclude inauthentic content, such as mass-produced or repetitive uploads, and AI personas that give finance, health or legal advice.
  • Fanvue: AI creators show an AI tag in the profile bio, and AI content must be disclosed clearly in the bio, captions or as a watermark.

A bio line that works everywhere

Something short and plain works best, for example: "AI-generated persona · content made with AI". Put it in the first line of the bio so it shows before "more".
