Do you need a cut-out or a new scene?
Either, depending on the tool. Some tools only remove the background and leave you a clear cut-out. Others, such as Photoroom and Inflyu, can also put a new backdrop behind the subject. Pick by what the finished image needs to be.
Can it handle many photos at once?
Some can. Pixelcut and Clipdrop list batch features on their pages, and remove.bg has an API for apps. If you edit a whole catalogue, check the batch and export limits before you pay.
Do you pay a subscription or per photo?
Both exist. Several tools here sell a monthly plan with a free tier beside it. Inflyu sells credit packs you pay for per photo, with a monthly plan as an option.
What does the free tier cover?
Less than a paid plan. Free access ranges from a daily allowance to a few free tries. Read the free-tier column before you upload a photo.
